![]() It’s an annual overload of music, film and interactive madness. South by SouthWest (SXSW), began over a quarter century ago as a small, regional music festival, has since become one of the largest and most important music gatherings on the planet. The music section of the 2015 SXSW takes place in Austin, TX from March 17 – 22. It began as a music festival but has evolved over the years to include a highly respected film festival as well as a segment dealing with all things interactive. I attended last year’s music segment and was overwhelmed by the sheer number of musicians, DJs, and bands performing. It’s a music lover’s feast. Myriad bands and artists of every conceivable genre and variations perform all day and into the night at every possible venue and street corner in and around downtown Austin along with numerous large and small outdoor performances. There are also many informative sessions geared to help up-and-coming or struggling musicians as well as mentoring sessions of all things musical. Last year’s highlights included a Jimi Hendrix tribute featuring many stars including Slash, a Lou Reed tribute that showcased an esoteric gathering of musicians, and a Soundgarden rooftop performance.
